Storing Without The Drama

About Me

Storing Without The Drama

When you are in the middle of a move, the last thing you need is additional hassles, which is one of the reasons I started looking for great storage units in my area. I wanted to be able to unload the things that I didn't want into a unit, lock up the space, and walk away. After looking around for the right storage facility, I was able to find a great spot that I felt confident about. It has been really neat to see how much of a difference great storage has made in my life, and I know that it can help you too.

Making Your First Move? 3 Tips For Moving

Moving can be a lot of work. If you are making your first big move soon, there are a few classic tried and true moving tips you need to be aware of. These moving tricks can help smooth the process of your first move.

Figure Out a Budget

First, you need to figure out a budget. Moving isn't a free nor cheap process.

When it comes to a budget, you need money to purchase moving supplies. You need to buy moving boxes, tape, bubble wrap, and packing paper for your move. You also need to budget for a moving vehicle, and potentially moving labor. Paying for assistance with the move can help reduce the physical stress of moving day significantly.

Additionally, if you are moving into a new apartment, you need to make sure you have saved up for first month's rent. You also need to save up for a deposit, which generally equals or exceeds a month's rent.

Go Through Your Things

Second, you need to go through all of your things. It is amazing how much junk you can accumulate over time, and how many things you don't need that you can accumulate as well. Take advantage of the move, and spend at least a week working your way through your home, figuring out what you want to move and what you don't want to take with you. Then, either donate, recycle, or throw away the things you don't want to take with you. The less stuff you have to pack and move, the better. There is no point in moving junk you don't need.

Pack Carefully

As you start to pack everything up, don't just throw things into random boxes. Instead, try to have a bit of a system. Pack like items together, for example, in your living room, you'll want to pack the decorations together, pack the movies together, pack the electronics together, etc. Packing like items together makes it easier to find things and keep them safe, assuming you label everything.

Labeling your boxes is just as important as using enough packing materials to keep everything safe. Label each box with the room that it goes in, and then write down exactly what was in the box. Effective labeling will make it easier to place the boxes in the right room, and effective labeling will help you determine what to unpack first.

When it comes to your first big move, you need to figure out a budget. You will need to pay for moving supplies and moving help. You need to give yourself some time to go through your home and get rid of what you don't need. Be sure to pack carefully and label everything effectively.
